"We take gender for granted. Ever since we can
remember, man and woman have been two separate entities.
But what if man and woman had to meet all over again
and discover each other? In fact, what if they were
at war with one another, with myths about each other
that were as baseless (but just as old) as time itself?
This is the setting in which Vandread puts itself. Relying
on jokes about gender interaction, dramatic action,
and beautiful animation and CG, Vandread is a series
that shouldn't be missed..."

"Vandread is about a group of individuals who are
thrown together due to several events that were outside
of their control. So imagine the horror they had to
face when the males realized that they would not only
have to live with the women, but that the women would
have to live with them. Now normally this doesnt
sound like such a bad thing, right? Well what about
if males and females had been separated into their own
society for three generations. Only the oldest have
any idea how to deal with the other gender..."

"Another anime space epic? They seem to be a dime
a dozen from the older Tenchi series all the way to
Cowboy Bebop and Nadesico. Don't get me wrong. I've
enjoyed each of the mentioned series very much. But
there seems to be only so much you can do with that
senerio. Therefore, when I began to hear talk of the
Vandread series my initial reaction was to pass it up
for some other titles I was currently working on. However,
when I had opportunity to visit my nearest anime distributor,
one of the titles I was hoping for was not available.
As I searched the shelves, there was Vandread. So I
decided to give it a chance. I am glad I did..."

"Refreshing a standard genre is a common task in
entertainment today. Neon Genesis Evangelion brought
new dimensions to the mecha genre, as did Trigun to
the bounty hunter genre...A recent addition to this
trend is Vandread, a combination of the strangers far
from home genre (a la El Hazard and Star Trek: Voyager)
and merging mecha genres (think of Voltron or any basic
sentai show like Power Rangers). Now toss in the twist
of humans being alienated by humans, based on gender,
and you come up with a delightful context in which the
tried and true plot of trying to get home alive while
fighting against a strange new enemy. Although only
the first stage of Vandread is currently available (the
second stage is due for release soon), it is quickly
proving to be fun to watch ..."
