Utena the Movie is sure going to puzzle more than one in the audience. Depending on your personal biases, you will either find it excellent or want to stay away as far as possible...

If you already know the TV series, you will notice right away that the weirdness factor is amplified by ten here. You will also notice that the designs are much more mature. You won't however feel too disoriented, because you already have the background.

But what about someone who's new to it? Well, you will probably admire the graphic beauty of it all, espescially the coloring and the architecture, and you will probably react strongly at the storyline, but I can't guarantee that you'll like it. The storyline is heavily compressed, and you don't get a tenth of the series' character development. Besides, the scenario has been "modified" so as to fit the length of a movie feature. The music is a mix out of pop, techno and classical music, so it depends heavily on your attitude while watching the movie to like it or not.

The graphic beauty of that movie is dazzling, however it deals with very mature issues and will probably have you think a long time about them, that is, if you don't rightout shut the film off. I heavily recommend that you watch the part of the TV series already released if you want to fully enjoy that movie. As both products don't have the same developments nor teh same ending, you can watch the movie without worrying too much about spoilers for the TV series.

In short, I find it to be a very good film, but it is so unique and so strange that I'm sure the opinions about it will be heavily split between lovers and haters. And confused people ^_^
