Overview:
Long ago, a young girl was saved from suicide and loneliness by a handsome prince, who gave her a ring with a rose crest on it and told her that they would meet again one day. Utena, the girl, is now grown into a teenager, and begins to attend Ohtori Academy, a rather unusual school filled with intrigue, conspiracy, and most of all, duels between combatants who vy for the prize of the hand of the "Rose Bride", a shy, passive girl who is fought over every day. Becoming a duelist herself, Utena vows to save the Rose Bride from her royal imprisonment, while at the same time seeking out the prince who saved her life.

Some Characters of Note:

Utena Tenjou : The protagonist of the Revolutionary Girl Utena series. Utena is an athletic, somewhat tomboyish young girl who was saved long ago from suicide by a mysterious prince who gave her a rose crested ring. She seeks this man to this day and, strangely enough, aspires to be a sort of prince herself at Ohtori Academy, where she becomes a duelist to save the Rose Bride.

Anthy Himemiya : A shy, somewhat introspective young girl, this dark-skinned student is none other than the Rose Bride, the one who the duelists fight over. While her true identity remains a closely guarded secret, Anthy still begins a deep and friendly relationship with Utena, who fights to save her from her imprisonment as a prize.

Touga Kiryuu : The enigmatic president of the student council, the most influential body in Ohtori Academy, Touga is popular and well-liked, especially by the females of the school. However, his arrogant manner and somewhat cold tactics offset his handsome good looks. His true agenda and the council's is something that is found in the series.

Juri Arisugawa: The captain of the fencing club at Ohtori Academy, Juri is not someone given to idealism or optimism. Refusing to believe the idea of Utena's life purpose as well as in miraculous things in general, Juri has withdrawn into a shell from which very few people can crack her out.
