Overview:
Tenchi,
a teenage boy, has always led a normal life, and going
to school and helping his grandfather run the local
shrine has always kept him busy. Nothing ever unusual
ever happens to Tenchi - that is, until he enters a
cave that he isn't supposed to and awakens a female
demon who wants to kill him! Tenchi will find out more
about his true heritage and destiny through these and
many other trials - if he can avoid the sudden appearance
and resulting chaos of several women from outer space
staying at his house.

 Tenchi
Masaki : Tenchi is, until this point in the
story, a normal young man who goes to school and
also helps his father and grandfather run the local
shrine where they live. Tenchi has always been very
kind and patient, but even his tolerance is tried
when Ryoko, Ayeka, and a whole bunch of other personalities
all come together under his roof to cause daily
mayhem. Tenchi's true heritage and destiny is revealed
in the course of this series, as he investigates
the mysterious sword that his grandfather passed
to him.

 Ryoko:
Strong-willed and slightly arrogant, Ryoko is a
space pirate with a price on her head. Long ago,
she battled the legendary warrior Yosho on earth,
and ended up being imprisoned on the planet by his
sword and the gems affixed to it. Tenchi unwittingly
releases her, however, and she at first pursues
him, trying to kill him and get her gems back. Eventually,
though, Ryoko settles down as a self-invited resident
in Tenchi's household, and ends up falling in love
with Tenchi.

 Ayeka:
One of the princesses of a planet called Jurai,
Ayeka had arrived in the area of Earth's solar system
on her way home from an engagement meeting when
she spotted the life signs of Ryoko, the wanted
space pirate, coming from earth. Seeking to capture
her, Ayeka attempted to kidnap her and Tenchi, only
to fail and become stranded on the planet. Ayeka's
prim and proper nature tends to rub Ryoko the wrong
way (and vice versa) and the two are known to argue
violently, especially if it's over Tenchi, who Ayeka
grows to like.

Washu
Hakubi: A mad scientist who is unwittingly
released from her prison, Washu is an extremely
intelligent woman who, like the others, has an
interest in Tenchi, though some of it is purely
professional and curious in nature, regarding
Tenchi's latent powers. Washu is known to create
inventions that either do not work or cause more
trouble than they are worth, though her knowledge
and expertise in the areas of dimensions and science
are great assets to Tenchi and his friends.
