"In a medium where complex stories and plots are being explored, there are certain series which hold to simple formulas and manage to succeed despite their lack of complexity. Some of them even end up classics, well-loved even beyond their time. Oh My Goddess! is one of those series, and its simple story of romance and fantastical powers is still appreciated by anime fans today..."

"A challenge faced by certain types of manga is that of gender identification - there is shonen and shojo, manga for boy and manga for girls. Some authors, such as Rumiko Takahashi and Kosuke Fujishima, write in such a way that their work has appeal for both genders, regardless of whether it appears in a shojo or a shonen publication. Oh My Goddess! fits nicely into this category, with enough heartwarming romance and sweetness to draw in women, and enough comedic antics and gorgeous babes to draw in the guys. The five-part original animated episodes can be similarly categorized (or non-categorized, rather) as having a wide base of appeal using these methods..."
