Overview:
Mayuko
Chigasaki is a very poor college student just trying
to make ends meet as she tries to put herself through
school. It's bad enough having several jobs and still
not earning enough money for yourself, but it's even
worse when there's a freeloading alien living in your
closet who's always hungry! NieA isn't leaving anytime
soon, so Mayuko must deal with her, and hopefully still
pick up the money (and food) that she needs to get by.

 Mayuko
Chigasaki : A struggling and shy college student
holding multiple jobs, Mayuko is desperately trying
to pay her own way through "cram school"
in order to get into the college of her choice.
She may have her hands full with NieA, but that's
not going to stop her from getting the money she
needs. Mayuko doesn't have very many possessions,
but she does have an old watch that her father once
gave her which she keeps close to her.

 NieA
:
An "under seven" type alien living with
Mayuko, NieA has been sleeping in Mayuko's closet
despite Mayuko's unwelcome attitude towards her.
A freeloader with no job, NieA spends her days scavenging
for UFO parts and generally trying to leech off
of Mayuko and whatever food she has. Strangely enough,
unlike other aliens, NieA does not possess an antenna
on her head.

 Chiaki
Komatsu :
A girl who befriends Mayuko and who is also a bit
more outgoing than she is. Chiaki is a very sociable
person, both on and off the Internet, and she is
obsessed with paranormal activity and aliens. Carrying
a laptop to make live webpage updates of her alien
encounters, Chiaki latches on to Mayuko even more
when she discovers that NieA, an alien, is living
with her. Though a bit strange, Chiaki is a good
friend to Mayuko.

Karna
: A supposedly "class 5 elite" type
alien, Karna possesses one of the most powerful
antenna among those she associates with, and has
no trouble reminding them of that fact. Arrogant
and more than willing to look down on those beneath
her social status, Karna feverishly works for
aliens to be more recognized and accepted in alien
society. Because NieA seems to be the opposite
of all she stands for, Karna hates NieA with a
passion and the two definitely do not get along
when they are together. Though she has a powerful
antenna, due to unknown effects she sometimes
zones out and picks up funny radio and tv signals
from across the ocean.
