Overview:
The nefarious and ruthless Jovian Lizards are invading the inner solar system with their numerous unmanned ships and superior technology, and are poised to take Earth. However, all is not lost, as private mechanics corporation Nergal Heavy Industries comes up with the Nadesico, a civilian ship equipped with the technology needed to fight off the hostile Jovians. Staffed by one of the strangest and most mismatched of crews, including the intelligent but dense Capt. Yurika Misumaru, the Nadesico charges through space, turning the tide of battle, and in the process, finds out more about itself and the true purpose of the war. Now if only they could keep from going absolutely crazy...

Some Characters of Note:

Akito Tenkawa : One of the main characters of Nadesico, poor Akito has a phobia of fighting the Jovians due to an incident back on his home colony of Mars, which he somehow survived. Ever since then, he's been afraid of fighting, and desires nothing more than to become a simple and talented cook. But his past as a pilot and the childhood friend of Yurika Misumaru is going to get him in more trouble than he ever expected or wanted!

Yurika Misumaru : The young and extremely optimistic Yurika is the chosen captain of the unique crew of the Nadesico. An extremely brilliant and insightful tactician who graduated from the military academy having never been beaten in battle simulations, Yurika has the brains to run the Nadesico. However, in other matters, particularly romance, Yurika most definitely needs a little work. Her rather spacy attitude and completely blind love of Akito offset her other talents and tend to get her into trouble.

Ruri Hoshino : Referred to by fans as a "female Spock", the emotionless Ruri is the Nadesico's computer officer, and the one closest to the Nadesico's artificial intelligence computer system, Omoikane. She is most commonly heard referring to her crewmates and situations as "baka" (idiotic or foolish), and chooses not to be heavily involved in the crazy activities on the ship...at first. Ruri also has a past which she remembers nothing about.

Gai Daigoji : An Aestivalis (robot) pilot for the Nadesico, the fiery Gai is always ready for battle and a chance to prove his prowess and ideals. Obsessed with an old-style cheesy mecha anime called "Gekigangar 3", Gai takes every opportunity to imitate this in his fighting, even resorting to giving ridiculously dramatic names to his battle moves and shouting them out when he fights. While he is slightly reckless, Gai is nevertheless a fighter with a heart of justice.
