This
is an EXAMPLE of Shojo Manga! Yuu Watase really outdid
herself this time around. The costume design, as well
as the variety of costumes, is great. Even guys out
there may want to read it, as I did. Watase-Sensei really
studied Chinese mythology, astronomy, and architecture.
The characters' age variation was a nice thing. You
have someone to relate to in Fushigi Yuugi, be it timid
but brave Chiriko, calm Chichiri, or clumsy Miaka.
Some characters, however, weren't given as much attention,
like Mitsukake, who almost becomes a secondary character.
Also, there are characters you love, but then they start
getting picked off one by one, so in the end you want
to kill the author, and there are characters you hate,
who don't get as painful a death as they deserve.
I
definitely learned quite a bit of technique from Yuu
Watase's style. The story/character development is taken
to the art form. Here, you can get your fill of Bishojo/Biseinen(Beautiful
Girls/Guys). This Adventure/romance/comedy could very
well be a Role-Playing Game.
Whether
you want to read the Manga or see the Anime, you're
in for some good stuff!
