"Fushigi Yuugi will always be my favorite anime
because it was the first one I saw after being a Sailor
Moon-only anime fan when I was 14. It will always have
a special place in my heart, however FY is far from
being a perfect show...One
thing that this anime excels at is it's character development.
However, it is also it's downfall. How can this be,
you ask? The characters are that developed are done
so well that you will fall in love with them (Nuriko,
Hotohori, Chichiri, and Tasuki), however there are some
that are just neglected to the point of well...having
no point in the show..."

"When
I started watching Fushigi Yuugi, I was a little skeptical.
It seemed like a typical shoujo anime- whiny, defenseless
girl gets sucked into a new world, meets new friends,
finds a slew of enemies, and needs to save the world
if she wants to go home, with of course, a little romance
in between. But my perspective soon changed..."

"This
is an EXAMPLE of Shojo Manga! Yuu Watase really outdid
herself this time around. The costume design, as well
as the variety of costumes, is great. Even guys out
there may want to read it, as I did. Watase-Sensei really
studied Chinese mythology, astronomy, and architecture.
The characters' age variation was a nice thing. You
have someone to relate to in Fushigi Yuugi, be it timid
but brave Chiriko, calm Chichiri, or clumsy Miaka..."

"Shoujo
is a very popular genre, usually involving romance and
emotional romanticism (not the same thing). Fushigi
Yugi (translated into "The Mysterious Play")
is one of the top titles of this genre, supporting a
detailed and interesting plot, a wide variety of characters,
and artwork reminiscent of the highly acclaimed Kanon,
another shoujo anime. The problem many viewers have
with the long series is its melodramatic (and sometimes
extremely annoying) attitude..."

"Being able to make your wishes come true is perhaps
one of the most desired things that a person could want.
If you could wish for anything, you'd definitely take
the easy road to success and happiness. But what if
the road to getting the power to wish for what you want
was wrought with peril, death, and danger? And when
you finally got your wishes, would it really be as good
as you thought it would be? Fushigi Yuugi is a series
that sets out to answer these questions, and it is Miaka's
journey to achieve her wishes that makes this one of
the most intriguing and deep anime series..."
