Overview:
Toru Honda has always been one to grit her teeth and bear her suffering with a smile, especially after a tragic accident took her mother away from her. Living in a tent, Toru struggles to go to school. Her life is about to change in more ways than one, however, when she becomes associated with and moves in with the Soma family, who all harbor a curse that changes them into animals when someone of the opposite sex hugs them or makes them nervous. As the new maid, Toru may have her hands full cleaning up after the Somas, but it might be even more trouble when she finds out about their secret.

Toru Honda: A young high school student, Toru is cheerful, happy, and most of all, able to adapt to almost any situation. After the tragic death of her mother in a car accident, Toru ends up living in a tent in the forest, while attempting to attend school. Ashamed of her current living situation, Toru has kept her arrangements secret from her friends, but a chance meeting with Yuki Soma will not only change the place where she lives, but also of how she views Yuki and the other members of the Soma family.

Yuki Soma: Young, handsome, and successful in school, Yuki is fairly popular among his peers. The girls are starstruck by his looks so much that several of them have even decided to form a fan club in his honor. Yuki, however, regards these compliments to his person with little to no reaction, and even rejected a girl who confessed her love to him. He cares for Toru very much - but his strange curse of turning into a rat whenever she or any other woman hugs him will definitely get in the way of his expressing his feelings.

Kyo Soma: Somewhat of an outcast on many levels, Kyo is a fiery, hot-headed young man who is living in the Soma household even though he is not really related to the family. However, he still possesses the same curse that the rest of the Somas possess, and he turns into a cat whenever a female hugs him. Kyo expresses a dislike for Yuki, and the two are constantly fighting to see who is stronger. In many cases, it is Yuki who has gotten the upper hand over a weaker and angrier Kyo, but Kyo is determined to get better.

Shigure Soma: The oldest in the Soma household, Shigure is also Kyo and Yuki's guardian. While he seems like a bit of a skirt chaser, he is absolutely serious when he has to be, and takes in Toru just as well as Yuki does. Shigure also possesses a curse, just like the other members of the Soma family, turning into a large dog when he is hugged by one of the opposite sex.
