"When I first heard about Excel Saga, I was not at all skeptical about dishing out $30+ for the first volume DVD. all the previous reviews I had read had nothing but great things to say about the first of this anime series. Upon watching all five episodes, I gladly would have given my next two paychecks to watch all of the series. Unfortunately, that day will have to wait. But for the moment, Excel Saga Volume 1 is all I ever wanted in a comedy anime. I have to say that it may not be for everyone but so far, everyone I've shown it to has shown the same kind of admiration for the series as I have..."

"Hail Il-Palatzzo! Oh, the glory of parodies. Everyone likes to laugh, especially at an inside joke. We otakus are lucky to have our very own joke anime, created simply to bash and parody other animes (and even RL movies). The hilarity of the anime Excel Saga never ceases to crack me up; the only problem is that one has to have seen a good deal of anime and moves before being able to appreciate this series..."

"In all sorts of stories, and not just in anime, there's a thing called the "fourth wall". This is basically the barrier between story immersion and the author's own machinations. Technically, you can chalk everything that happens in a story up to the author's own whims, but to be entertained, we suspend our belief and disregard the author's thoughts, preferring instead to let the characters themselves be the motivation by which we understand them. Usually, this "fourth wall" is completely untouchable...but with the irreverent (yet very funny) Excel Saga, anything is fair game..."
