"Hideaki Anno, director of Eva and its final movies,
wanted to stray fans away from the same-old same-old
that had been all over Japanese airwaves in his time.
What he created was a monster that he tried to kill
several times... "

"What does one look for in entertainment? Although
it varies from person to person, many look for something
that provokes their thoughts. Evangelion, above all
others I've seen, will make you think. It's storylines
twist and weave. Character development is nearly unmatched
in any anime I have seen thus far..."

"Neon Genesis Evangelion. American
anime fans finally got their own Star Wars, Star Trek,
etc. with the arrival of those three words. It's hard
to not see why it wouldn't have become popular. It came
out at the time that the X-Files had reached the crest
of it's popularity, the characters are easily relatable
with, and it's full of twists and turns to keep anyone's
interest. However, upon it's arrival Evangelion became
one of the most polarized series in anime fandom, you
either really, really like it or you despise it..."

"Hideaki
Anno's (His and Her Circumstances) brilliant series
Neon Genesis: Evangelion is, without a doubt, the most
influential anime titles of the 1990s. With its release,
the anime industry was changed forever. Not only that,
but the fan base was changed forever. As a highly disturbing
series, Evangelion is thought of a 'love/hate' anime,
either treasured or trashed by viewers. It is also one
of the most controversial stories ever released, and
no matter what one feels towards it, there is absolutely
no denying that this series is a masterpiece..."

"Evangelion is kind of like a really scary roller
coaster. It starts off innocently enough, rising up
into what you think is a normal frolick into the area
of action mecha anime. And then comes the plunge, right
into the depths of an anime so twisted inside it may
change your perception of the human psyche forever..."

"This series was the first series which I had been
intorduced to during my adult life. As a child I had
been a huge fan of Voltron, Robotech, Etc. Since this
was my first series, It will forever hold a special
place in my heart... "

"If your looking for something that's fairly dramatic,
but doesn't leave out action, comedy, and sexual tension,
the Eva should be your cup of tea. It's powerful storytelling
and X-Files-ish conspiracies and plot lines will drag
you in and keep you guessing as to what is going on..."

"I heard a lot about Evangelion, much of it from
message boards and reviews. I came to the series wanting
to like it. Many of my friends had given it high recommendations.
For about the first ten episodes I can say I was enjoying
it. Characters seemed lively in the midst of adversity.
In difficult circumstances they banded together even
with their differing personalities. Then the series
took a nosedive for me. What had been good character
development up to that point all took the same course
towards insanity. By the end of Evangelion I came away
discouraged, disheartened, and totally disappointed..."

"Evangelion, a true delight to the senses. Although
the series may seem to start as an action-oriented mecha
anime, it slowly morphs into a drama filled with conspiracy.
The characters all have a past, each slowly revealed
throughout the series. The unknowing viewer is thrown
back and forth, watching their favorite characters get
tossed around, built back up, only to be torn down again.
All too often a series will give the viewer what they
want. Evangelion is full of so many twists and turns
that the viewer is always on their toes..."
