Overview:
In the chaos and violence of the European Medieval era, a young swordsman named Gatts is recruited into the Hawks, a rising group of mercernaries led by the charismatic and handsome Griffith. Though the friendships he makes in the Hawks are close ones, especially with Griffith, Gatts cannot help but notice Griffith's ambitious and bloodthirsty nature, and in the wake of the existence of demons in the land, Gatts may find that his battles come closer to home than expected...

Gatts (a.k.a Guts): A young swordsman-for-hire, Gatts was adopted by a warrior when he was very young and taught the way of the sword. Unfortunately, Gatts was forced to kill him in self-defense one day, and he has been a wanderer ever since. Defeated and taken in by Griffith, Gatts becomes a member of the Hawks, befriending many of them. However, as Griffith becomes more and more nefarious, Gatts decides to leave the Hawks.

Griffith : A charismatic and ambitious young man, Griffith was not born of the nobility, but his deeds with the Hawks and his efficiency in doing so cause him to rise quickly through the ranks of the aristocracy. Dreaming of his own kingdom, Griffith is a very driven man, but this same drive turns out to be his downfall, as he is determined to achieve his dreams and goals by any means necessary. Griffith defeats but later becomes friends with Gatts.

Caska : Second in command of the Hawks, Caska has been at Griffith's side ever since he saved her from a nobleman who attempted to rape her. Since then she has learned the art of swordsmanship and become loyal to Griffith and his mission. However, she also ends up forging a relationship with Gatts as well, and the two eventually become romantically involved.

Judeau : The commander of the Hawks' reconaissance troops, and a very self-sacrificing man, Judeau is a cool-headed person who sometimes serves in a mediator role. However, this does not mean that he is not any less skilled as a fighter, as his skill with the short sword, bow, and especially throwing knives is second to none.
