- apocalyptic Neo-Tokyo was the source of a disaster
that happened 31 years ago that ravaged the previous
city and left its citizens and the government in disarray
over its own forbidden experiments. Now gangs and other
rebels rule the streets, but history is set to repeat
itself as the government is experimenting once again
with humans and psychic power. Only Kaneda, the leader
of a small motorcycle gang, can stop his friend Tetsuo
from destroying the city with his out-of-control powers,
but it may take another psychic to do it.

Kaneda:
The leader of a small but very skilled motorcycle
gang, Kaneda has his hands full just trying to
survive in the city, as well as fend of rival
gangs like the Clowns. However, Kaneda and his
friends are about to be swept up in something
bigger than they could ever imagine, and Kaneda
must now fight his best friend in an attempt to
not only save him, but the entire city of Neo-Tokyo
as well. Determined and confident, few can stand
up to Kaneda's motorcycle riding skill.

Tetsuo:
Tetsuo is the youngest of Kaneda's motorcycle
gang members, but is also Kaneda's best friend,
having known Kaneda since childhood. Tetsuo works
hard at being strong, though he continues to harbor
a secret resentment towards Kaneda for having
to rely on his protection. Tetsuo's anger and
jealousy, however, burn out of control and threaten
to destroy the entire city after the government
experiments on him and awakens his latent psychic
ability - a deed they will soon learn to regret.

Akira:
The most powerful psychic of all of the government's
experiments regarding psychic powers, Akira is
a child that hides one of the most destructive
potentials of all time.Ultimately responsible
for the initial disaster that leveled most of
Tokyo 31 years previously, Akira was "disassembled"
by the government soon after and studied for future
reference. Though he is a dangerous individual,
Kaneda may look to Akira as his only hope at fighting
his out-of-control friend Tetsuo, and preventing
the same disaster from happening once again.

Kei:
A seemingly innocent young woman, Kei is actually
part of an underground terrorist group that is seeking
to undermine the iron-fisted hold the military and
government have over the city of Neo-Tokyo. She
is captured by the police, but is eventually saved
by Kaneda. Though she has an initial distrust of
Kaneda and his gang, Kei eventually gets over this,
and even develops what could be a romantic interest
in Kaneda. |
