Nirvana
The
Nirvana was originally part of the Ikazuchi battleship
that ended up fused to one of the Mejale Pirate's assault
ships. The ship has been known to self-repair since
its combination with the assault ship and, even more
strangely, seems to behave as if it was alive. The crew,
at first, has no idea how the Nirvana works, and has
to figure it out little by little as they travel. One
thing that is found out right away is that even though
the ship's operations are handled by females, only a
male can pilot the actual ship. The name "Nirvana"
is the result of a naming contest that the Mejale pirates
held on the ship. The Nirvana also holds a strange sentient
power source called "Paksis" which may be
part of the reason the merging happened in the first
place.
Vanguard
(a.k.a. Bangata)
The
Vanguards are the standard assault vehicle for first-class
soldiers of the Tarak Empire. It's humanoid form can
be outfitted with various attachments and due to its
shape, is suited for different environments and terrain,
including both space and land battles. The Vanguard
that is piloted by Hibiki suffered some side effects
as a result of the mutation that created the Nirvana,
and has some additional abilities. Vanguards use a variety
of weapons, from bare fists, to other melee weapons
such as spears and swords. Vanguards appear to have
limited projectile weapon capability.
Dread
The
Dread is the standard assault vehicle of the Magno's
pirates. They are designed to be sleek and very maneuverable,
able to fly around enemies with dizzying speed. Three
of the Dreads were affected by the mutation and fusing
of the Ikazuchi and the pirate's old ship. These three
Dreads are piloted by Jura, Meia, and Dita. The composition
of the ships changed quite a bit, such that the storage
facilites had to be altered for the Dreads. Like for
Hibiki's Vanguard, the controls, interface, and abilities
of the Dreads were altered slightly, but are otherwise
normal. The Nirvana still retains several squadrons
of Dreads which are commanded by Meia, though Jura or
Barnette is able to step in if the need arises.
Supply
Ship
The
Mejale pirates use a supply ship to refuel weapons and
energy in long, drawn out battles for the Dreads. Piloted
by the manager of the "Registration" supply,
the supply ship fills "delivery orders" for
Dreads that are directly given to them via the ship's
cache. The supply ship can support up to 5 Dreads. To
protect itself in battle, the ship is outfitted with
a tough outer shell that can withstand quite a bit of
damage. It can also retrieve damaged Dreads by way of
its multiple crane-like arms.
Vandread
The
combination of Hibiki's Vanguard and the Dreads affected
by the fusing of the Mejale pirate ship and the Ikazuchi.
When combined the ships become one powerful ship that
is more powerful than either of them separately. Each
of the Vandreads produces different abilities and weaponry
depending on which combination is used. The following
is a listing of each of the Vandreads, from left to
right:
Vandread
Dita - The first combination discovered, this humanoid-like
robot is the result of Dita and Hibiki's ships uniting.
This Vandread has all the maneuverability of a Vanguard,
but also has additional weapons at its disposal. Its
main weapon are the two energy spikes on its back, which
can be used as melee weapons or as a powerful dual beam
weapon that can destroy enemies in its path.
Vandread
Meia - The second combination, Vandread Meia (formed
from Meia and Hibiki's ships) emphasizes speed over
raw power. Able to accelerate to speeds that seem to
defy common knowledge, Vandread Meia's comet-like abilities
allow it to charge enemies head on, destroying them
instantly. The speed of Vandread Meia also makes it
the most maneuverable of all the Vandreads.
Vandread
Jura - The third combination, discovered by Jura and
Hibiki, is a crab-like ship that appears to have a strange
look about it at first. However, it proves to be a worthy
addition to the arsenal despite its looks, as it is
a ship that concentrates its reportoire on defensive
abilities. Able to generate a shield big enough to cover
an entire planet, Vandread Jura can defend itself and
its occupants from multiple attacks. It can also strike
out at enemies if need be using its circular-like reflective
discs.
Super
Vandread
The
final combination of Dreads and Hibiki's Vanguard, this
highly powerful Vandread is formed through the combination
of Hibiki's Vanguard, Jura, Meia, and Dita's Dreads,
and the Navi robot Pyoro. The Super Vandread also posesses
all of the normal Vandread's abilties, including speed,
shielding, and beam weapons. It has a sword that is
used for melee combat, but it can also engage enemies
from afar with its multitude of weapons.

One of the great things about Vandread
is that all the space battles and ships are done with
three-dimensional computer graphics, or 3D-CG, animation.
The designs are among some of the best looking and innovative
in the anime medium, and the way that they are shown to
be moving is equally amazing. Here you'll find pictures
