Washu's Science Corner
Carrot AvatarMad scientist/genius Washu Hakubi is one of the most influential (and trouble-causing) characters in the Tenchi Muyo series. Of special note are all of the crazy inventions that Washu creates, and inventing things that are as dangerous as they are useful is something that carries over with Washu no matter what Tenchi continuity is presented. We'll let Washu present some of her most insane trinkets to date, as well as highlight some that didn't quite make the cut. Have fun!

Washu's Inventions List

Washu pose picHi hi! Scientific Genius Washu here, the greatest mind in the known universe! You may have seen me help these poor folks out at the characters section, but now I get a section all to myself to show you just some of the things I've cooked up for Tenchi and his friends. It's the least the staff can do for my dimensional help with getting all that character info in the Tenchi universe. Anyway, you'll find a listing of what I've created below, with information on what continuity I made it in as well as some links for those I snapped some priceless pictures of. No stealing my great ideas now!

Dimensional Door (Tenchi Universe): Washu created this dimensional tunnel to serve as a go-between between Kiyone's ship, the Yagami, and any point withing a few hundred meters. It was made using one of Tenchi's house's sliding doors as well as Washu's own dimensional technology. This door came in handy at several points in the series.

Dimensional Machine (Tenchi Universe): One of Washu's greatest and most complex inventions, this machine allowed the user to create any sort of dimension for themselves that they wanted, with parameters set to the person's ultiamte wants and desires. Washu created this as a secret project, but in their haste to get what they want, just about everyone in the Masaki household gets their hands on it before it is completed, inputing all their own personal desires. This threw everyone into a dimensional mess, with mixed results, and Washu had to fix the machine while everyone was wandering from custom dimension to dimension.

Dimensional Tunnel (Shin Tenchi): Because Tenchi was going to be apart from his household for quite some time in Tokyo, Washu created this star-shaped, seemingly hollow device, made from flexible wire. When attached to a surface, it became the entry point to Tenchi's apartment (specifically through his comforter on his bed). Once opened, the tunnel allowed everyone to travel instantaneously from Tenchi's house in the mountains to his apartment in Tokyo. The only way the tunnel could be closed would be if it was broken, closed manually, or if Tenchi's comforter were closed. This would essentially seal off the entrance.

DNA/Mind Transfer Machine (Tenchi Universe): Washu created this machine in conjunction with Mecha-Washu, and it was designed to transfer the mind data of one person into an inanimate object. Washu was going to use this in order to transfer her mind data to Mecha-Washu, but Mihoshi accidentally transferred hers to the machine instead.

High Power Cotton Candy Maker (Tenchi Universe): Washu made this device for Kiyone and Mihoshi, after Ryo-ohki ate all the carrots that they were using in their yakisoba during the carnival. Its speed and ease of use definitely made it an efficient machine. Once again, however, Mihoshi is the ultimate catalyst in its destruction, accidentally letting it go so out of control that it consumes the carnival grounds in a sea of cotton and sugar.

Kagato (OAV): Made from Washu's DNA and the Masu, a sort of chameleon-like sentient material, Kagato is one of the villains of the Tenchi OAV continuity. He managed to lock Washu away in her own ship and almost destroyed Tenchi and company when they went to rescue Ryoko from him.

Mecha-Washu (Tenchi Universe): Made with the intent of speeding up work in her lab, Washu created this mechanical version of herself and constructed it with many features, including a beam weapon, launchable fists, and even a backup body for emergencies. Unfortunately before she could transfer her intellect and mind to it, Mihoshi unwittingly interefered, infusing the machine with her clutzy, ditzy personality. This definitely caused trouble for Tenchi and friends, and only Kiyone knew the secret to stopping Mecha-Washu.

Ryoko and Ryo-Ohki (OAV): Made from Washu's DNA and the Masu, a sort of chameleon-like sentient material, Washu considers herself the mother of Ryoko and Ryo-Ohki. Ryoko's ability to use energy swords and teleport is derived from the OAV Washu's own powers, and Ryo-Ohki was developed as a ship that could be compacted.

Soja (OAV): This giant ship was created by Washu to have two dimensions, a reverse and main dimension, in order to create more space. Unfortunately, Washu was locked into the "Reverse" part of the dimension by Kagato, who then began to use the ship for his own purposes.

Washu Communications Network (Shin Tenchi): Created as another way for the Masaki household to keep an eye on Tenchi, Washu made this series of small transmitter robots that were spread out over the distance between Tenchi's house and Tokyo. Operating on a communications sytem that involved passing data and images from one robot to the other, Washu made a seemingly flawless network that showed what Tenchi was doing 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. However, the villain Yugi tampered with the system, causing the robots to send mixed messages back to the household.

Failed Inventions

Washu Blush picWell, even a great scientific genius makes a few littl emistakes along the way, right? I'm just about near perfect but there are some things I wish I had never come up with. I was probably insane, tired, or both when I made some of these things. I suppose you can read a list of them here, but don't say I didn't warn you. Of course if I missed someting in my pile of junk and want to submit some info about a possible failed invention of mine, feel free to email Frank or Asuka about it!

Arch Deluxe: I knew I shouldn't have tried that "royal adult" recipe that Ayeka gave me for hamburgers...

Bill Gates: Another one of my DNA/Masu creations. I put in the evil genius part of myself as well as the scientific part of my brain, but I think I forgot to put in the part that's supposed to know all about how computer systems work properly. Ah well. I doubt he's caused much damage.

Boy Cloner: Ok, so making a harem of men for yourself just doesn't work when all the brain data is coming from Mihoshi. Last I hear some of them had formed groups of 5 (since that makes 1 brain cell between them) and went into the American singing business...

Crystal Pepsi: That is the absolute last time I mess with anything remotely having to do with cabbit bodily functions...

SPAM: I was experimenting with some of my old computers and I accidentally sent one of my old money-making ripoff schemes to everyone with a computer....200 times. Oops. I guess the companies on the planet were pretty peeved about it because they'e been trying to mail me about the same thing for years now...
