Volume
18 (Green Cover)
The
Lion's Roar:
Ranma has received another challenge from Ryoga, and
10 days later, he turns up with a new move - the Shishi
Hokodan, which creates a big ball of 'solid' air. Later
Ryoga (who's very happy to have finally beaten Ranma)
carries back an injured Ranma (who's depressed at not
being able to beat Ryoga) to the Tendo's. Ryoga explains
how he was given a scroll explaining the move by a construction
engineer when trapped in a cave. Ranma challenges Ryöga
to a match in a week, but is dismayed to learn that
Ryoga hasn't perfected it yet, and it's already powerful.
Prelude
to Defeat:
Ranma's spent all night trying to figure out the Shishi
Höködan, but Cologne tells him to give up, as he won't
be able to use it. Meanwhile, Ryöga tries to tell Akane
his true feelings again, but she first asks him to help
cheer up Ranma, which makes Ryöga more depressed. Ranma
bugs Ryöga to see the move again, and gets blasted,
so onna-Ranma dresses up as a young admirer of Ryöga,
who's happy with the attention. At first Ryöga can't
do it, but then does a small Shishi Höködan which knocks
a kettle onto Ranma - who gets a BIG blast. At home,
Ranma's very depressed, and when Genma comes to check
on him, Ranma blasts Genma without deliberately trying
to do the Shishi Höködan, and can't figure out why it
just worked.
Unlucky
Blow:
Ranma has been trying all night to do another Shishi
Höködan, when Ryöga comes along and taunts him, and
Ranma then blasts a wall, and figures out that the move
is fueled by despair. Ranma and Ryöga then start blasting
each other, while Akane is worried about the downhill
spiral of depression. Ranma resolves to make himself
more depressed than Ryöga - won't eat, will be Nabiki's
slave if he loses.
Emotional
Impact:
Genma tells Ranma to learn something else, as the Shishi
Höködan isn't appropriate for someone of his personality,
but Ranma continues to work on the Shishi Höködan. He's
having trouble being distracted, and after getting hit
by his own wandering Shishi Höködan ball, decides that
it's only the strong feeling that's needed not that
type to mould the technique to suit himself, and gets
very happy and confident. Meanwhile, Ryöga has figured
out how to perfect the Shishi Höködan, and asks Akane
to tell him that she hates him. When she reluctantly
does, he runs off crying, then Akane sees a MASSIVE
blast of energy. Ryöga has done the perfect Shishi Höködan,
and is standing in a large crater.
Lion
Versus Tiger!:
Three days late, Ryöga turns up to his fight with Ranma.
Ranma counters Ryöga's Shishi Höködan with his Möko
Takabisha, fueled by confidence. This makes Ryöga depressed
enough to use his full Shishi Höködan, which Ranma jumps
out of the way of. Akane figures out that telling Ryöga
she hated him made him so depressed, so she tells him,
she really likes him and they can be 'just good friends
forever'. This makes Ryöga REALLY depressed.
The
Weight of Victory: Ryöga tries to finish off Ranma, who is trying to work out why Ryöga
isn't being hit when the huge ball comes down. Ranma
figures out Ryöga is releasing all his feelings, and
so doesn't get hit, and proves this by distracting Ryöga
("you can see Akane's panties") just as the
ball comes down. Ranma then tells Ryöga he's kissed
Akane, and when Ryöga does a huge full Shishi Höködan,
Ranma jumps underneath the ball of chi as it comes down,
tells Ryöga he lied, then punches him. Ranma wins, but
Ryöga beats him up later for lying.
New
Year's Curse:
After Shampoo has been missing for a day, Ranma, Akane
and Mousse go to the last place she delivered take-away
to - the Cat Temple. There, the Bake-Neko has put a
curse on Shampoo and she can't leave without turning
into a cat. It can only be reversed if the person she
loves most kisses her - ie Ranma. Later at the Tendö's,
Ranma is still suffering from his cat-phobia, when the
Bake-Neko delivers some gifts for his wedding to Shampoo
- who will be cat forever, unless she and Ranma kiss
by the 108th bell tomorrow (New Year's Day). However,
The Bake-Neko had put cat-nip on Ranma, and the cats
around the temple chase after him.
Ring
Proposal:
Ranma tries to get Akane to wear a cat-nip filled jacket
to lure away the cats, but both she and Mousse don't
want him to kiss Shampoo (who's in a cage), and they
start fighting. Ranma persuades Akane to distract the
cat, but just before Ranma forces himself to kiss Shampoo,
she stops him. Then the bell starts ringing, and Shampoo
starts turning into a cat. Ranma tries to break the
bell, knocks himself out, and just before the 108th
bell, neko-Shampoo kisses Ranma.
The
Plum and the Prune: Ranma is repeatedly having a nightmare where this guy and onna-Ranma
are having a date and end up kissing. This is because
she reminds the old guy (who's in a critical condition
in hospital) of his first love, who's spirit then leaves
his body. Ranma and the old guy go on a date (Ranma
doesn't want to be haunted), but apparently the old
guy and his first love promised to elope when the cherry
blossoms bloom, but they never did, so they goto where
the trees were, but it's now a building site. However,
he'd just made it up, and back at the hospital, onna-Ranma
isn't happy to find out that the guy married his first
love, who's now an old woman Ranma says she doesn't
look like.
Sibling
Warfare:
Kunö slices up a large poster of Ranma, so Kodachi feeds
him to her alligator for destroying her poster. The
next day Kunö tries to bribe Ranma to be Kodachi's slave
(so that they can make up) with "suggestive photos
of 'osage no onna'". Ranma turns up, but it's because
he wants the photos destroyed. When Ranma beats up Kunö,
he then burns all of Kodachi's posters of Ranma, which
makes Kodachi want revenge on Kunö and 'osage no onna'.
The
Scandal Breaks!: At school Kodachi spreads photos of Kunö and a skimpily dressed onna-Ranma
'on a date' - it's a doctored photo. Nabiki says (for
money) that to counter-act it, she'll spread more photos
(onna-Ranma in underwear with insidious caption). Onna-Ranma
then goes to Kunö to get him to apologise to Kodachi,
but Kodachi has some more photos (the others think these
will be even more revealing), but it's Kunö's head on
P-chan's body. Ranma beats up Kunö, and puppets him,
fooling Kodachi into thinking Kunö apologised.
