Volume 17 (Pink Cover)
Melonhead:
Kunou has sent yet another challenge letter to Ranma,
and as Ranma waits to supposedly give Kunou another
lesson in why he can't beat him, an unconscious Kunou
shows up on the beach with a watermelon on his head.
What's worse is that Kunou now has amnesia and can't
remember anything (though he is still pursuing the "pig-tailed
girl" and Akane). Ranma and Akane attempt to jog
his memory with the one clue they have - watermelons
- but they both may be in for a surprise when Kunou
demonstrates exactly what he learned...
The Horror of Party Beach: Ranma is still trying
to jog Kunou's memory, especially the memory of learning
the technique that completely blew Ranma away, but nothing
seems to work. In desperation, Ranma tries his girl-form
on Kunou in an attempt to get him to remember, and even
places a watermelon on him to simulate the way he was
found. But the strategy backfires when Kunou thinks
that Ranma wants to go out with him, and now the two
are stuck on "Watermelon Island", a dangerous
hazard of a place with absolutely no hot water for Ranma
to change back!
Catcher in the Rind: Female Ranma is stuck on
Watermelon Island with Kunou, and she's running out
of tricks to stop his amorous advances. Meanwhile, a
worried Akane heads to the island, having found out
that the training there is so rigorous that many people
(including Kunou) have lost their memories to the mastering
of techniques involving watermelons. Ranma's running
out of time, and unless she can discover how Kunou is
able to slice up the watermelons, she's definitely going
to be in trouble...
The Sauce of Ten Years: After a decade of waiting,
Ukyou is finally able to taste the okonomiyaki sauce
recipe that is supposed to age ten years. Hope rises
in her - until she tastes the sauce and discovers just
how bad she failed. A depressed Ukyou is unable to go
to school and the Tendos graciously offer up a place
in their home until she is feeling better. Ranma especially
seems to be nice to Ukyou, to the suspicion of Akane,
and several misunderstood encounters lead to Ranma sleeping
on the roof and Akane wondering just why Ranma is being
so nice to the okonomiyaki chef.
For the Love of Sauce: Ukyou is determined to
punish herself for the horrible sauce she made - by
eating it! But a guilty Ranma, who was the culprit behind
ruining the sauce ten years ago, isn't about to let
Ukyou's feelings be hurt, and even at the cost of his
own stomach Ranma eats every single okonomiyaki made
with the horrid sauce. Meanwhile, Akane and Ukyou try
to find out why Ranma is being not only nice but self-sacrificial,
and Ukyou finally remembers a childhood promise that
Ranma made to "take care of her" for the rest
of her life if the sauce tasted good. Unfortunately,
Ranma has long since forgotten the promise, and when
he finally tells Ukyou, painfully, that the sauce tastes
good, he may be digging himself into an even deeper
hole...
The Truth About the Truth: Ranma's in a real
bind as Ukyou is totally convinced that Ranma told her
the sauce was good because he truly loved her. Now Ukyou
is playing the part of happy housewife, right in the
Tendo household, and an angry Soun is determined to
make Ranma pay for undermining his already existing
engagement to Akane. Akane finally finds out the truth
about the sauce from Ranma, and when they tell Ukyou
the truth, she doesn't believe it! Ukyou thinks that
Ranma was put up to this by a scheming Akane, and now
Nabiki must step in in order to help Ranma and Akane
get Ukyou out of the house. Now Ranma and Akane have
to pretend to be a happy married couple, but Ukyou is
dead set on staying until she finds out the real truth
about Ranma, Akane, and her sauce.
The Honeymoon Period: Ranma and Akane are supposedly
happily married, and the rigors of marriage are especially
hard on Ranma, who now has to willingly eat Akane's
cooking! Ukyou, however, is not giving up so easily,
and decides to give up okonomiyaki in order to fight
for Ranma as a woman. Ranma and Akane have kept up the
act so far, but they're sure to be tested when Nabiki
tells them that they have to spend the night in the
same room as a couple. The Tendos are listening in,
Ukyou is still suspicious, and now Ranma has to try
and end this, one way or the other, even if it means
making yet another empty promise to Ukyou to take care
of her...
Please Hate Me: Ranma's plan seems flawless -
get Ukyou to hate him for being a bad "husband",
and therefore get her to leave the Tendo household forever.
But it may not be as easy as it seems, and even treating
Ukyou like he does Akane isn't going to deter Ukyou
from trying to get Ranma. With Ukyou ever determined
and Akane even angrier at Ranma's reluctance, the only
thing that Ranma can think of to do with the vat of
horrible sauce is to consume it - even if it means that
his stomach practically implodes with the effort.
Nightmare on Hot Springs Street: Soun, Ranma,
and Genma are on a training trip to find out about a
mysterious "living octopus trap" that has
been terrorizing the countryside. In fact, the "octopus
trap" has been taking food, stealing underwear,
and harassing women in the baths. Placing 2 and 2 together
isn't all that hard for Ranma as he quickly figures
out who is behind all the mischief. Despite all of Happosai's
trouble, however, Soun and Genma are prepared to leave
without him, and a sympathetic Ranma may try to convince
them otherwise when Happosai appears to have some feelings
after all...
Paper Dolls of Love: Wimpy Gosunkugi has just
about given up on trying to get Akane to even notice
him, and things are even worse since Ranma literally
walks all over him. However, a chance encounter with
a paper doll vendor may change his mind forever. The
magic dolls have the ability to make the person do whatever
is written on them if stuck on their back, and Gosunkugi
is definitely going to use them to his advantage. Opportunities,
however, are limited, and with Ranma now aware of what
he's doing, he's going to have to act fast if he's going
to get Akane to go out with him.
The Pill of Obedience: Ranma's insolence is about
to come to an end, as Happosai finds a magic pill that
causes the student to obey the master depending on which
pills are taken. Happosai manages to get the sequence
right so that Ranma will obey his every whim, but the
catch just happens to be that the pills are highly magnetic,
causing Ranma and Happosai to literally be stuck with
one another. Now Ranma has to deal with all of Happosai's
perversions and still get punished for them, and if
he or everyone else doesn't find a way to separate them,
they'll be stuck that way forever...
