Volume 14 (Blue-Green Cover)
Target
: Pigtail:
Things seem to have quieted down on the fighting front
for Ranma - that is, until four little men with heads
shaped like pork buns attack him! Seems that Ranma has
something that the little "niku" men want,
and that's the string that holds Ranma's ever-present
pigtail in place. A puzzled Akane looks on as Ranma
fiercely resists any attempts to remove the string,
with only the clue that it is his "seal" to
go on.
Let Your Hair Down: It's bad enough that the
niku men are after Ranma's pigtail string, called the
"Dragon's Whisker", but when Happosai learns
of its secret, nothing's going to stop the perverted
and ancient martial artist from taking his shot to take
it away - not even the prospect of collecting more bras!
Ranma now has to avoid the niku men's trickery as well
as Happosai's formidable fighting skill, but he can't
avoid them forever. And when the Whisker finally comes
off, an ashamed Ranma runs off, only to have Akane find
him in the strangest state ever...
The Whisker's Secret: Ranma, now with hair that
would outdo Cousin It of the Addams Family, tells the
story of the Dragon's Whisker to Akane. It seems that
the Whisker has the power to grow hair for any male
that consumes it, and many a bald man has fought to
possess its hair-growing effects. Now even Ranma's own
father has discovered the true secret of the Dragon's
Whisker, and Genma and Ranma fight for the right to
possess it. The Whisker is once again taken from Ranma,
who immediately grows mountains of hair stoppable only
by his transformation to a female, but Cologne suddenly
shows up with some disturbing news - if Ranma continues
to grow his hair out uncontrollably, he will rapidly
lose all his hair forever!
Hair Raising: As the niku men, Happosai, and
Genma fight a fierce battle to determine the owner of
the stolen Dragon's Whisker, Ranma attacks all of them
in a desperate bid to get the Whisker back before he
goes completely bald. But with three equally skilled
opponents, time may run out for Ranma before he can
get back the only thing that will return his hair to
normal for good...
Let's Go to the Hot: Akane wins two tickets to
an onsen (hot spring) race in which the winners get
an all-expense paid trip to any spring in the world!
Now Akane has Ranma's only ticket back to Jusenkyo to
undo his curse, but unfortunately for her, she can't
get an opportunity to explain the prize to Ranma. Even
worse is the fact that she wasn't the only one to win
the tickets, and now Shampoo has snatched up Ranma as
a partner in order to win the prize (and Ranma) for
herself! Akane isn't about to be discouraged, though,
as she recruits, of all people, the myopic Mousse for
a partner. Meanwhile, Ryouga gets the courage to finally
try to ask Akane to the hot spring race himself, but
ends up accidentally asking a certain spatula-wielding
okonomiyaki chef...
Screamin' at the Hot Springs!: Ranma and Shampoo
arrive at the Hot Springs race site, and discover that
they're not the only favorites to win the hot spring
prize! Akane, Mousse, Ryouga, and Ukyou are also gunning
for the right to travel to any spring in the world,
and with the race being entirely run "three-legged",
the stakes have been raised! The first part of the race
is a log rafting race that's anything but safe, especially
with 6 martial artists competing, and for Ranma, things
couldn't have gotten worse - until Ukyou and Shampoo,
both claiming Ranma for their own, finally meet...
Three-Leg Scramble: Traveling through hot springs
filled with hungry alligators is bad enough, but it's
even worse when everyone's partners seem to be fighting
each other! Ranma and Ryouga decide to form a temporary
alliance, leaving the still-fighting Ukyou and Shampoo
in the dust, but Akane and Mousse aren't about to let
them pull back, even if Mousse does call Akane someone
with "stumpy legs". At the end of this leg
of the race, Ranma and Akane find themselves paired
up, and work to run past yet another hazardous part
of the race, but it may be harder then usual when the
obstacle happens to be "cold water geyser"
springs...
Hot Bath!: The gang all takes a break in the
many hot springs around, and the males and females are
unaware that the other is around. Mousse decides to
finally take a peek at a naked Shampoo, but even Ryouga's
temptation to see Akane bathing is going to deter him
from stopping the weaponed martial artist. Meanwhile,
Ranma is inadvertantly knocked out by a rock thrown
by a suspicious Akane and the hot spring is destroyed
by the frustrated Mousse. But can a fighting Akane and
Ranma get out of the next deadly spring of "sand",
with clothes that weigh as much as lead?
Ranma Gets Up?!: Ranma and Akane are swiftly
sinking in the quicksand "bath", but even
that can't shield Ranma from the realization that he
hurt Akane's feelings by not going with her first. A
determined Ranma refuses to leave without Akane, even
as the town council behind the hazardous race offers
a way out of the deadly trap. Using the lead and chains
inside his clothes, Ranma manages to grab onto, of all
things, Ryouga, in order to get out of the trap, but
a backfiring of his plan leads to almost certain disaster.
Now it's up to Akane to try and save them both - but
will she grab the lifeline to retire them from the race
or risk her own life to save Ranma's?
The Final Choice: Now only the "maze"
baths remain before the reaching of the final goal of
the race, and Akane and Ranma, in last place, struggle
to catch up in the turning and twisting of choices in
the mini-labyrinth. While Ryouga and Ukyou remain lost
in the maze, Shampoo ditches Mousse and attempts to
take Ranma away from Akane. But Akane's not about to
give up Ranma, and as they come to a fork in the bath
maze, Ranma must now make a choice between going Shampoo's
way or Akane's way - but the choice just might have
more implications than he could ever want...
A Goal Too Far: Ranma, Shampoo, and Akane now
all end up in the "sake" (Japanese wine) bath,
and a drunk Ranma must now be carried by Akane through
to the last leg of the race. The town council, however,
isn't about to let someone actually finish the race,
and begins to move the goal away from Ranma and Akane.
But even in a drunken state, Ranma is determined to
win a free trip to Jusenkyo to cure himself, and even
the Goal sign going down a snowhill isn't going to stop
him from finishing the race and finding a cure for his
curse forever.
