Cha Cha Maru Manager AKA Master

Master is not actually the character's name. It's his title as owner of Chachamaru, which is the local bar. He is generally a soft-spoken man.

Godai, Yukari (Obasan)

She is the grandmother of Yusaku. She was the one that raised him when he was young. Yukari is a very head strong woman. She tries to do what's best for Yusaku. Several occasions she has visited Maison Ikkoku. She fits well with the rest of the tenants and have been know to drink with them.

Godai, Yusaku

Godai has been living in Tokyo for 3 years trying to get into college. Hence his status as ronin. He immediately falls in love with Kyoko when she first comes to Ikkoku-kan as the new manager. His apartment is the staging area for the Loon Squad's parties because it's the cleanest room. Yusaku lives in apt #5.

Grandfather Otonashi

Kyoko's father-in-law who's the landlord of Ikkoku kan. Known only as Oyaji meaning grandfather. He is a gentle man that tries to encourage Kyoko to do what's best for her, including suggesting that she remarries. He is the also the board member of Kyoko's high school where Souichiro taught geology. He also helped Godai get the student teaching position there for his internship.

Ichinose, Hanae

The Ichinose family is the only family living in Ikkoku kan. Ichinose Hanae is the housewife taking care of her husband and son, Kentaro. He is a short plump woman that stays home all day. She does the domestic chores while Kentaro is at school and her husband is at work. She is very high spirited and outgoing. Every night she finds time to party the other tenants in Godai's room. In a drunken stupor she will pull out her fans with the Japanese flag to dance and sing. This behavior constantly embarrasses Kentaro. She is known to gossip with the tenants and the neighbors. Many times the gossip results in a misunderstanding between Kyoko and Godai.

Ichinose, Kentaro

Kentaro is the son if Ichinose Hanase. The only child living at Ikkoku kan. He's a typical 4th grader that goes to school and does his homework. He is always embarrassed by his mother's drunken behavior and usually chases her around Godai's room to get her to stop. Though he calls Godai "onisan," it is more because of social etiquette. He has no respect for the ronin and has no problems with cutting down and ignoring Godai. He enjoys hanging around with his friends and playing with Souichiro san. After meeting with Ibuko he developed a crush on her. He sees Godai as a bit of a rival since Ibuko is vying for his attention. Kentaro will do what he can to get in the way of the Ibuko's advancements on Godai.

Kujo Asuna

Asuna is Mitaka's Omiai. Omiai is an arrangement made by a third party to arrange for a couple to get married. In this case Mitaka's Uncle made the arrangements. Asuna is a very shy and withdrawn woman. She spent all her life within the walls of her parents' mansion. Being the only child her 'brother/sisters' are her dogs.

Mitaka, Shun

Mitaka is the tennis instructor at the tennis club. He is from a rich family hence he doesn't live at Ikkoku kan. As a child he had to retrieve a tennis ball that landed in the dog house of a neighbor. He's has a phobia of dogs since then. Every time he is near Souichiro san he paralyses and becomes useless. He is the rival of Godai for the affections of Kyoko. The two know it and are always trying lobby harder for Kyoko's affections. His name Shun means shine.

Mr. Chigusa

Mr. Chigusa is Kyoko's father. Ever since Souichiro's death. He has been wanted Kyoko to leave the Otonashi family and remarry. Kyoko's refusal has been a strain to Kyoko's relationship to her family. He still sees Kyoko has her little girl and has difficulty accepting the fact that she is grown up. He is suspicious of Godai.

Mr. Ichinose

The patriarch of the Ichinose family, he is the husband of Hanase and father of Kentaro. He is roughly the same size and build as Hanase. Ichinose is the typical salaryman. He works horrendous hours that keep him away from Ikkoku kan. His appearences are rare. It was when he lost his job and spent more time at Ikkoku kan when the other Ikkoku tenants found out that he existed. He is a quiet man.

Mr. Souichiro AKA Souichiro san

Souichiro san is Kyoko's large white dog. He's not very intelligent and will answer to any name for food. Kyoko never trained him and he acts any way he pleases, usually just sitting in his doghouse in the Ikkoku yard. Souichiro, Kyoko's husband, found Souichiro san as a puppy and brought him home. He was originally named Shiro meaning 'white.' Common dog names are Shiro (white) or Kuro (Black), so Souichiro san is an unusual name for a dog. Also 'san' is never used for animals.

Mr. Yagami is Ibuki's father. Heis chief of personnel at Mitsutomo. He believes that Godai is useless after giving him an opportunity to interview at Mitsutomo for a job. His love for Ibuko has caused him to look for job opportunities for Godai.

Nikaido Nozumu AKA Nikaido Nozumi

Nikaido only appears in the manga and the final movie. He moved in against the wishes of his mother thinking it would be interesting to live there. His family is well off. He is clueless about most of the happenings at Maison Ikkoku.

Otonashi Ikuko

Ikuko is Kyoko's niece and Oyaji's granddaughter. She is the daughter of Souichiro's sister. She lives with Oyaji and her mother. Nothing is known about his father. At the beginning of the series she is a jr. high student. After meeting Godai she quickly developed a crush on him and goes as far as arranging to have him tutor her in English to be close to him. His tutoring lasted until she started high school. During her first visit to Ikkoku kan she mets Kentaro and becomes the object of his crush.

Otonashi, Kyoko

Kyoko Otonashi is the manager of Ikkoku kan. She is the widowed daughter-in-law of Otonashi (Oyaji), the landlord of Ikkoku kan. When the former apartment manager left Ikkoku kan she volunteered to become the manager in his place. Her husband was Souichiro Otonashi. He died several months after they were married. Out of love and loyalty to Souichiro, Kyoko never remarried and stayed with the Otonashi family. After moving into Ikkoku-kan she finds herself becoming the love interest of both Godai and Mitaka. This added with her loyalty to Souichiro makes her struggle with her feelings about the two of them. Most of the tension comes from the other tenants spreading rumors and lies perpetuating the misunderstanding at Ikkoku kan.

Otonashi Souichiro

Souichiro is Kyoko's deceased husband and former geology teacher. He met Kyoko in class where she was the class representative. Souichiro only appears in the story as flashbacks and torn pictures. We never find out what he really looks like. In many ways he is similar to Godai. He had a problem expressing his feelings and was usually nervous. Apparently, he jump from job to job until Oyaji got him a job teaching at Kyoko's school as a geology teacher when he was 26. Kyoko quickly fell in love with him and she kept chasing him until they got married. He died several months later.

Saotome is the president of the puppet club at Godai's college. He is a big guy that is known to scare the little children that attend their puppet play performances.

Yagami Ibuki

Yagami was one of Godai's students when he was student teaching at Kyoko's old high school. Yagami was class representative when she first met Godai and fell in love with him. She saw the parallel between her relationship with Godai and Kyoko's relationship with Soichiro. She has been active in trying to woo Godai even against the will of everyone including her parents.

Yotsuya

Yotsuya is the most enigmatic figure of Ikkoku kan. Not much is known about him except that he is part of the loon squad. His usual habit is to crawl into Godai's room through a hole in the wall between their apartments looking for food, joining a loon squad party or just irritating Godai. Other than that no one knows what he does or where he works or even where he goes when he claims to go to work. Yotsuya lives in apt #4. He has said that he has a first name, though it has been different every time he has mentioned it. Here is the list of first names he claims to have. Note that Kanji has several different pronunciations, which is why he says "written as . . . pronounced as . . . ."
