Ikkoku Fun Facts
Carrot AvatarAny anime series out there has its share of little known factoids and nitpicky details that only the most hardcore of fans would pick up on or discover. Maison Ikkoku is no different, and there are some interesting things in the anime and the manga that can slip by the casual viewer if you're not careful. This section lists some miscellaneous and intriguing facts about the world of Maison Ikkoku.

Little-Known Maison Ikkoku Facts

(Special thanks to otonashi and Saffran of AnimeInfo.org for compiling these tidbits)

-Between the days the anime was broadcasted and nowadays, the price for a beer in drinking establishments has almost doubled. (we see a picture saying "one beer for 300 yen" in several scenes, but today you pay between 550 and 600Y for that same one. Of course, a beer in a cabaret would be
twice if not thrice as much...) The prices for food also seem to have doubled, but curiously enough not
for jewelry.

-The advertisement : "if you wife loves you, she'll cook you miso soup" seems to be a real one.

-The model of the bar "Chachamaru" in Maison Ikkoku has been found :

The comments says that although none of the parts of the building correspond exactly to the one in the book, it is the only known bar/snack that has ressemblance to Chachamaru in all the area. It was still opened and alive as of August 2000. (last news on it)

-The Nagano City hall refers to a real mansion called "Maison Ikkoku", but no photos are available...

-Kyoko insults Kozue's voice actor in ep 62. She's the one singing on TV when Kyoko pesters about "air-headed, unbearable singers". In the same vein, Kyoko's mother and the Yagami family are described as having great patience and solid nerves to endure the TV programs in scenes where Kyoko's voice actor is singing.
