Taiitsukun

Taiisukun is a very powerful (and very old and wrinkled) sorceress that resides on Mt. Taikyoku in the land of Konan. The mountain is supposedly one that you can only see if you have no evil intent in your heart, and Taiitsukun acts as its guardian. It is Taiitsukun that provides guidance to Miaka and the Suzaku Seven in their quest to summon Suzaku. Taiitsukun also employs the use of her servant Nyan-Nyan in order to assist Miaka and her friends. While Taiitsukun is a very powerful and wise being, the others who associate with her are very disgusted by her face, even to the point of calling her a "sand witch", something which angers Taiitsukun to no end.

Taiitsukun first meets Miaka and her friends when they journey to Mt. Taikyoku in order to find a way to send Miaka home. To test their worthiness, Taiitsukun creates an evil double of Miaka and locks up the real Miaka in a prison, challenging her to get out. Miaka is successful in this, though she is seriously wounded, but Taiitsukun heals her. From there on out, Taiitsukun acts as an advisor and guide to Miaka and the Suzaku Seven in their endeavors. Despite her ugly appearance, she is a great asset to the Suzaku Seven and her enhancing powers and items are invaluable to them in their journey. Though hard on Miaka at times, Taiitsukun truly believes that Miaka has the potential to fulfill her duties as the Priestess of Suzaku.
