Overview

Part of what makes anime and manga interesting is that there are many different kinds of stories that can be told. Just as live action cinema has created different types of stories, so too has anime and manga done that as well with the many types of series and movies it presents.

Shoujo anime (literally, girls' animation) is one of the most well-known of the anime sub-genres out there. Even though it is aimed at girls, people of both sexes, especially outside of Japan, have taken an interest in it. Because some of the elements of shoujo are those that are sometimes present in many other anime, it might be easy for someone to get confused about exactly makes an anime or manga series shoujo.

This course is meant for the new anime/manga fan looking to increase their knowledge or the person who's just looking for a refresher. We'll be looking briefly at shoujo's history, some things to look out for, and some other specific things. Hopefully you'll get something good out of it!
